From sustainable nematode management to science communication: PurPest at "Meet the Researcher"

On June 19, PurPest Communication and Dissemination Officer David Pires presented a seminar as part of the "Meet the Researcher" series, organized by the Plant Protection, Genetics & Biotechnology Research Group at the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED), University of Évora.

Entitled "From root-knot nematodes to pine wilt disease: a journey in sustainable nematode management", the talk explored his academic background and research trajectory in plant nematology, from early studies on root-knot nematodes to current work on biological control strategies targeting the pinewood nematode. The seminar also highlighted the importance of science communication and public engagement in research, drawing on experiences from European projects such as PurPest.
